History of Speer Bullets®
At Speer®, we understand shooters because we are shooters. Every product we make reflects that.
It all started in 1943, when Vernon Speer started building bullets because reloaders couldn't get the components they needed from ammo companies. His focus was on the hunting rifle bullet, but he also built the first mass-produced jacketed handgun bullets for hunting and law enforcement. In the 1960s, he put those bullets into loaded ammunition in the now-famous Lawman® line. Vernon understood shooters' needs, and reacted with quality products.
More than a half-century later, we still run the business that way from the small city of Lewiston, Idaho. The original product lines have been expanded and new ones added. In 1996, Speer became one of the first U.S. ammunition manufacturers to achieve ISO 9001 certification for quality.
Our location contributes to our formula for success. Determination, self-reliance and independence are classic Western attributes that we bring to work every day. It shows in all of our superior ammunition components.
